Tanya Powell starred at Ottawa Hills High and then became the University of Michigan's top rebounder.
She was an all-state standout center who led her Ottawa Hills High School basketball teams to a 60-6 record, including three City League championship and two Class A semifinal appearances in the high school state tournament.
She then starred at the University of Michigan from 1986-90, where she was the school's all-time leading rebounder at the close of her career with 820 as well as one of the top scorers in school history with 1,135 points. She earned second-team All-Big Ten honors her senior season.
At one point her name was listed in the Wolverines’ records nine times, including having made the most free-throws in program history with 325.
