Gene Nyenhuis

Softball
Induction Year: 2004

Gene Nyenhuis was a standout in several avenues of athletics, but perhaps best known as an elite fast pitch amateur softball pitcher.
He was first a three-sport standout at Wyoming Park High School, then a football and basketball player at Hope College where he was a football team captain and an All-MIAA defensive lineman.
In softball, he played on multiple teams during the heyday of fast pitch softball and was named to the Michigan Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1989.
His profession involved athletics, too. He was a coach, teacher and athletic director, first at Wyoming Park and then for 30 years at Godwin Heights High School.
He died in 2000 at the age of 72.
