Ty Hallock demonstrated his athletic versatility, first as a standout athlete at Greenville High, then at Michigan State University on the football field and for four different teams in the NFL.
After a standout multi-sport athletic career at Greenville, Hallock played fullback, tight end and middle linebacker during his career at Michigan State. He earned All-Big Ten Conference honors his senior year after playing middle linebacker and making 144 tackles.
The Detroit Lions drafted the in-state player in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft as the 174th player overall. He served the Lions in three positions (fullback, tight end, linebacker) in his two years with the franchise, as well as on special teams.
He continued his multi-faceted play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1996 and ’97 and for the Chicago Bears in 1998, ’99 and 2000.
He played in 86 NFL games with 549 total yards and four touchdowns on offense and 10 tackles on defense.
After his career he returned to West Michigan to start a business career and appeared regularly on local television for WOOD-TV as an NFL expert source and commentator.
He also coached at the high school level at Forest Hills Central, and his sons followed in his footsteps in joining the football program at Michigan State.
