Tom Hofmann was best known as the head baseball coach at Grand Rapids Junior College (now Grand Rapids Community College).
He guided the GRJC baseball team to over 700 wins, five National Junior College tournament appearances and a third-place national finish in 1977. In 1984 he was chosen and served as a coach for the U.S. Olympic team, and he is a member of the NCAA Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Tom also officiated local high school and college basketball for 34 years and was a Big Ten Conference football official for 21 years. ?Among several bowl game assignments, he worked the 1989 Rose Bowl (Michigan beat USC) and the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, which served as the first Bowl Alliance National Championship game (Nebraska beat Florida).
Prior to coaching and officiating he played basketball and baseball at Aquinas College and is a member of the Aquinas Hall of Fame. He was also a standout three-sport high school athlete at Catholic Central High School.
