Edward "Mike" Murphy

Warren Reynolds Lifetime Achievement Award
Induction Year: 2012

Edward "Mike" Murphy was inducted at the age of 92.
He is one of the winningest basketball coaches in Michigan history with a career record of 316 wins and 135 losses.
He coached first at Grand Rapids South High, which is no longer open, and then at Muskegon High School.
During the early 1960's, while at South, his teams won five straight city league basketball titles and 44 consecutive league games, which is still a record for the 99 years of the City League in Grand Rapids.
He was a good player first, in football and basketball. He was All-City in basketball at South High in 1938, and then played on the first-ever undefeated football team at Grand Rapids Junior College.
Murphy is also a proud member of the Michigan Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
