Sue started playing golf at the age of four with her parents and brother. She won the Ionia (Michigan) Country Club Women’s Club Championship twice (at age 14 and 15) before becoming a scholarship golfer at Michigan State University. In high school, Sue also competed in basketball, volleyball, softball, and was a member of the MHSAA State Championship track team.

During her career at Michigan State, Sue won the Big Ten Championship in both her sophomore and junior years. The Spartans won the Big Ten team title in 3 of 4 years that Sue competed. Prior to graduation, Sue was honored by being named MSU’s first Sportswoman of the Year. In 2001, Sue was inducted into the Michigan State University Athletic Hall of Fame along with former MSU Basketball Coach Jud Heathcote and NBA player Steve Smith.
After college, Sue competed on the mini-tour in California for a year before qualifying for the LPGA Tour at the Q-School held in Sarasota at Bent Tree Country Club. In her 11 years of competing full-time on the LPGA, Sue had several 4th place finishes and her best year was in 1990 where she finished 37th on the money list. Throughout her career, Sue scored her career low of 66 – six times. After retiring from full-time competition, Sue spent two years as the head coach at the University of Arkansas. In 1997, Sue began teaching golf at The Meadows Golf Club at Grand Valley State University. Later the same year, she came back to Sarasota, this time to University Park Country Club, where she is currently the Head Teaching Professional.
In 2000, Sue returned to competition on a part-time basis and in 2001, she finished 4th on the Futures Tour money list (the top three received exempt status to play on the LPGA Tour in 2002). In 2005, Sue won the Massachusetts Women’s Open and the Ohio Women’s Open. During the past several years, Sue has competed on the Legends Tour with many former LPGA stars including Pat Bradley, Kathy Whitworth, Rosie Jones, Patty Sheehan, Joanne Carner and Amy Alcott among others. In 2011, Sue finished 5th in the BJ’s Charity Pro-Am in Plymouth, MA.

Sue continues to enjoy playing in pro-ams, meeting sponsors and members throughout the country, and is grateful to all who have shared their homes, favorite restaurants, and this great game of golf. Golf has enabled Sue to travel to all 50 States. In 2008, Sue shot her career low round of 64. And to date, her hole-in-one total stands at 10. In 2010, Sue was inducted into the state of Michigan’s Golf Hall of Fame.

Sue’s relatives continue to live in Michigan – her Mom, three sisters, her brother and their families are in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Alto and Ionia. Sue is a resident of Bradenton, FL.
