Tim Selgo put his stamp on the direction of Grand Valley athletics upon his arrival in 1996, promoted a well-rounded department and the Lakers produced unprecedented success on the field and in the classroom.

Between 2000 and 2014 GVSU won 10 Learfield Sports/NACDA Directors' Cup titles, known as the national all-sports trophy, and finished runner up four times. GVSU won 65 NCAA DII regional crowns and 1616 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles in that same time span, and the Lakers won 17 consecutive Presidents' Cup titles as the league's top athletics department with Tim at the helm. GVSU student-athletes also excelled with 49 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans named between 2000 and 2015.

Tim was NACDA Athletic Director of the Year three times, served a term as president of NACDA and was founded member of the West Michigan Sports Commission Board.
