Kathy Grzegorski-Johnson was a pioneer in girls high school basketball in West Michigan from the 1970s.
She starred at West Catholic for Coach Patti Tabaldi, also a Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame member, and led the team to the 1979 Class B state championship. Her 29 points in a double-overtime state semifinal game against Flint Beecher that year is regarded as one of the top performances in tournament history.
She attended Aquinas College, where the Saints went 90-25 during her career while she scored 2,037 points, which topped the all-time scoring list for 26 years.
She also was named an NAIA All-American in 1982 and ’84, was an NAIA Academic All-American in ’84.
