David Harris was a standout linebacker at Ottawa Hills High School, including earning all-state honors in 2001 and setting a school record for tackles with 158 in his junior season.
He then starred at the University of Michigan on teams that won two Big Ten titles and made a Rose Bowl appearance. As a senior he was a Big Ten All-Conference selection and earned All-American second-team honors.
He was drafted by the New York Jets in the second round in 2007 and played 10 years with the Jets and one year with the Super Bowl runner-up New England Patriots.
He made more than 1,200 career tackles in the NFL and was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2009 as the top tackler on the NFL’s top-ranked defense.
? In 2009 he was also the recipient of an Ed Block Courage Award, which is voted by teammates and presented for serving as role models of inspiration, sportsmanship and courage. He returns to Grand Rapids annually to present a youth football camp.
