Steve first starred in basketball at Grand Rapids Christian and then became the all-time leading scorer at Calvin College with 2,469 points.
He also holds the Calvin and MIAA single-game scoring record of 61 points in a 1993 win over Kalamazoo that clinched a conference title.
A two-time Division III All-American, he was named the Division III National Player of the Year in 1993. In 2000, he was named the Player of the Decade of the 1990s by DIII News. A four-time first team All-MIAA selection, he was the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1992 and 1993 and helped lead Calvin to three MIAA titles.
As a freshman in 1990, he helped Calvin reach its first NCAA Division III Tournament Semifinals and in 1992 led the Knights to the national title. It was the first team title in Calvin athletics history.
? After graduation, he played four years professionally in Europe.
