Margo Jonker, a Holland native who went to West Ottawa High, was a standout softball pitcher at Grand Valley State before becoming a coaching legend at Central Michigan University.
She retired in the spring of 2019 after 40 seasons and 1,268 wins, the ninth most all-time in NCAA Division I. Her 1982 team set a Mid-American Conference record with 51 wins, and her 1987 team finished fifth at the Women’s College World Series. Her 1,268-808-7 coaching record included 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, 10 MAC Tournament Championships and 10 regular-season titles.
She was MAC Coach of the Year 10 times and a NCAA Regional Coach of the Year three times. Her 521 MAC wins are 252 more than any other coach. She was also an assistant for the gold medal-winning USA team at the 2000 Olympics, and the gold-medal USA team in the 1998 World Championships.
She is a member of five other Halls of Fame.
