The Voice of the Grand Rapids Griffins since 2000, Bob has become one of hockey’s most beloved and distinguished play-by-play broadcasters during a career that spans more than 40 years. He was inducted as the Warren Reynolds Lifetime Achievement selection in 2021.
A winner of 10 broadcast excellence awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and three Michigan AP radio awards, Bob also received the American Hockey League’s 2009-10 James H. Ellery Memorial Award for his outstanding radio coverage of the league. Additionally, he twice earned the Bob Chase Award as Broadcaster of the Year in the International Hockey League while with the Kansas City Blades in the 1990s.
A Kalamazoo native who grew up in Flint, Bob achieved a lifelong dream during the 2016-17 season when he did radio play-by-play for 13 Detroit Red Wings games and called one telecast on Fox Sports Detroit.
In addition to his broadcasting duties, Bob serves as the Griffins’ vice president of community relations, directs the annual Griffins Youth Foundation Golf Classic and the Griffins Youth Hockey Camps, and is president of the Griffins Youth Foundation.
