Josette Carter McCullough

Dr. Josette Carter McCullough is a 1990 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School where she was Female Athlete of the Year her senior year and earned 11 varsity letters.
She starred on the basketball, volleyball and softball teams and as a team captain led her teams to six City League championships, three district Championships, two regional Championships, and the school’s first and only MHSAA girls’ state title in 1989. She was honored as team MVP, All-Region, All-Area, and All-City in all three sports she played and was All-State in basketball.
She had 1,000 assists in basketball, finished fifth in Miss Basketball voting her senior years played with a AAU World Cup Championship team in the USSR in 1988 and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Ottawa Hills High School Hall of Fame in 2020.
Dr. J has been inducted into the Delaware Diamonds Women’s Athletic Hall of Fame at Delaware State University, where she also starred in three sports. As a full basketball scholarship recipient, she led her teams to MEAC conference tournament runners-up in both basketball and softball and won the MEAC Northern Division title in softball. She earned the 1991 Women’s Basketball Coaches Award, and in 2016, the Delaware Women’s Alliance for Sports and Fitness Pioneer Award.
She is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, INC, with a commitment to community service, and has continued in basketball through coaching and has been on the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association state women’s basketball committee and other committees for 22 years.
She and her husband Tif McCullough, Jr., have two children, Jordan (24) and Jada (19).
